We get many confusing messages in our society (U.S). Diversity is good, we are a melting pot, Black History month, Hispanic History month, etc. while at the same time we are told to be color blind when it comes to people's race. Race is the elephant in the room. SHHH don't mention it, it isn't polite, "they" can't help being like that. And then there is affirmative action, which created a lot of problems in the eyes of the white majority of the country.
We all come in different colors, from different cultures and thus we have a myriad possibilities to be different from everyone else. But we are SOCIAL creatures, and as such we want to belong to a "group " and that group will be really similar to us. What is the similarity?
The reason why I have had issues in attempting to blog is due to the "group", in this case, my audience. Who is my audience? I guess my audience would be people who share similarities with me. So then, who am I?
FlautaMom is:
physically female
genetically female
culturally Hispanic
Sallowed-skin
Catholic
Bilingual
Computer Geek
Gamer
Role Player
Neurotypical
Psychologically mostly there
Nerd: M.A in Medieval Spanish Lit, and currently working on one on Linguistics
Attachment Parenting Mom
Extended Nurser (3+years and going)
Oh yeah, I am a Mom
And a wife
Wanna be organic eater
Wanna be slow eater
Wants to stop being a glutton
etc.
So, this is why there is a problem with my audience. I write with all of the above in mind, but are there readers out there that will want to read what I write? Probably not. Do I just want to write on one topic? Not really, I will write about whatever enters my mind...

Write for yourself, that's what I do. I don't expect anyone to read my words, I do it for me. I nominally do it to keep "friends and family" in the loop of what's going on in my life, but really, it's my place to get my thoughts in writing. I don't expect to have more than a few readers, and really, I don't want to be one of "those" bloggers. I like writing for me and hope that someone along the way might get a smile or an inspiration or a "me too" moment now and again.
Well, I didn't know I share sooooo many similarities with you until I read this post. So, I'll be reading you for sure :)
And I agree with Addey.
Hey, writing about whatever comes to my mind, and for myself, is all I do too. Sometimes I'll think about my audience and make sure I'm giving enough back story/101 for people who may not otherwise follow me, but that's about it!
I guess it was just all the brain washing from school making sure that I knew who my audience is... plus if I just do it for myself, then it becomes a diary, no?
Just trying to define this space and how I will relate with it is hard ;)
Addey: with reading your blog it makes me feel like I know what is going on with your life, specially with the time difference between us. By the time I get 5 mins to call, it is WAY to late in your neck of the woods.
Erica: I knew the KellyMom and the linguistics; now my curiosity wants to know where else we converge.
